Mon, 27 Feb 2012 11:25:00 -0800 At Ustaria Posta for an unforgettable cycling summer in the Dolomites http://ustariaposta.posterous.com/at-ustaria-posta-for-an-unforgettable-cycling http://ustariaposta.posterous.com/at-ustaria-posta-for-an-unforgettable-cycling

While we write this our garages are packed with skis and a few snowboards. Meanwhile our bikes are in some corner, covered by blankets to escape the dust. We are really looking forward to awake them from hibernation, but this will happen in about a month or so, when the Dolomites roads are partially clean from snow. In the meantime we still enjoy the winter season up to Easter, going out daily with mountaineering skis. At least this way we keep a good condition.

In fact, the cycling season starts early this year. The Ustaria Posta will open the doors starting May 20th. This is the week the pro cyclists of the Giro d'Italia are riding through the Dolomites:

The fun starts on May 22nd with the stage arrival at Falzes in Val Pusteria. The day after a majestic Dolomites stage awaits the cyclists and fans. First passing through the Val Badia (passing exactly in front of our Ustaria Posta) and climbing as first mountain of the day the Passo Valparola descending through the Agordino valley and cycling again up north through the Passo Duran, Passo Staulanza and the myth Passo Giau with finish in Cortina d'Ampezzo. During this stage fans have the chance to watch the riders passing by on the Passo Valparola and on the Giau.

On May 25th and 26th the pink party is again in the Dolomites with the mountain finish at the Alpe di Pampeago and on the next day .... yes ... the SIR Passo Stelvio.

By the way, did you know that there will be something of 'us' on the Giro's 2012 maglia rosa? Curious to know more? Read here!!!

Ves aspetun!!
We are waiting you!!
Fam. Tavella

Giro year 1953, Fausto Coppi wins the stage from Auronzo to Bolzano through the Dolomites roads. In the video you can see Misurina (0:36), Cortina d'Ampezzo (0:54), Passo Falzarego (1:35), Passo Pordoi (2:00), Passo Sella (2:42)

Fri, 27 May 2011 08:31:00 -0700 Where do you ride with your bike? http://ustariaposta.posterous.com/where-do-you-ride-with-your-bike http://ustariaposta.posterous.com/where-do-you-ride-with-your-bike

It's a common question from our cycling guests staying at our Ustaria Posta during their cycle holiday in the Dolomites.

Of course they don't refer at the roads from our house heading south to the Dolomites Passes but to the roads going north direction Brunico from where you can ride other fantastic Passes like the Passo delle Erbe (Würzjoch), Passo Furcia (Furkelpass) or the beautiful cycling path in the Pusteria valley.

Especially cycling north you can do terrific cycling loops like the Passo delle Erbe one:

Check our GarminConnect account to view more Dolomites loops.

So what about the question?
Traveling towards our valley by car most of our cycling guests are passing through 6 tunnels on the Val Badia road. But if you are on your bike, you don't need to pass through them. The old road is still practicable and that's where we go every day we train on our roads. So that's why we did a little timelapse video to show you this hidden spot:

Sun, 27 Jun 2010 12:00:00 -0700 Dolomites Sellaronda Bikeday http://ustariaposta.posterous.com/dolomites-sellaronda-bikeday-0 http://ustariaposta.posterous.com/dolomites-sellaronda-bikeday-0

If there is an event where every cyclist should at least participate one time in his live, then after the Maratona dles Dolomites we have to add the Sellaronda Bikeday.

During this event the famous Dolomites passes: Passo Campolongo, Passo Pordoi, Passo Sella and Passo Gardena are closed for the motorized vehicles and you can ride them in a quiteness that's hard to describe. Ok, you still hear all the other cyclists gasp and puff during the uphills.

Starting from our Ustaria Posta the whole loop measures 64 km for 1,850 meters altitude gain.

Every year, over 15,000 cyclists take part at this ... let's call it ... cycling party. You will find cyclists of every kind, trained or not, with girlfriends, wifes and kids.

Here we want to share with you some pictures of the 2010th edition:
